Queen Arwa University is a private Yemeni university established in 1996 in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a. The university is named after Queen Arwa, the historical figure who ruled Yemen for more than five decades in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The university aims to provide distinguished education and produce innovative research that serves the community and contributes to building the knowledge economy. The university offers various fields of study, including humanities and social sciences, business and management sciences, engineering, science, higher education, arts, law, and microbiology. The university is one of the most important Yemeni universities and one of the most committed to education standards and its outputs.
The university was founded by Prof. Waheeba Ghalib Faree Al-Faqih, who later assumed the position of Minister of State for Human Rights as the first woman to reach the position of minister after the declaration of the Republic of Yemen.
The university obtained its first license with the establishment of the Yemeni International Language Institute in 1989. In 1994 the institute established the Yemeni International Institute for Development. In 1995, the university laid the foundation for its first college, the College of Technical Sciences. In 1996, the university obtained the recognition of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Council Resolution No. (1). Since then, the university has expanded its academic faculties and departments to meet the needs of the Yemeni and Arab community.
The university has played an important role in the development of human resources and scientific knowledge in Yemen and abroad. The university has established cultural and scientific links and exchanges with universities, institutes and scientific institutions in the Arab world, as well as abroad. The university has also participated in many national and international projects and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education, research and community service.
